The GEO Mountains May meeting served as a platform for exchange, bringing participants up to speed on recent developments at GEO Mountains and inviting discussion on the formation of Task Groups. GEO Mountains participants also provided key updates on ongoing projects that could contribute to the objectives of GEO Mountains.

We would like to warmly thank all those who attended the GEO Mountains May Meeting; we certainly found the discussion to be extremely fruitful! The slides that were presented are now available to view here.

We look forward to your collaboration on GEO Mountains Task Groups, which will seek to co-develop (where applicable) and conduct specific tasks that have been identified in the GEO Mountains Implementation Plan. Joining a Task Group will entail making a tangible contribution in one area or another to these efforts. The Task Groups, like GEO Mountains as a whole, will be open and inclusive, with all those with relevant interests and skills most welcome. The first Task Group meeting will be convened in the coming weeks; to volunteer, see here.

We are also especially looking forward to your suggestions of datasets and other resources for inclusion in the GEO Mountains General Inventory

In the meantime, we hope you will take the opportunity to explore our new website, which was released on 28 May 2021! We welcome your feedback and suggestions (geomountains@mountainresearchinitiative.org). Finally, don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for the forthcoming GEO Mountains Inventory of In Situ Observational Infrastructure.

Best regards,

Carolina, Elisa, and James
