How to Become an IPCC AR7 WGII Expert Reviewer: Focus on Mountain Regions

23.11.2026 | 13:15 – 14:15
Online

Join us to learn more about contributing as an IPCC AR7 WGII Expert Reviewer focusing on high-altitude and mountain regions!

Background

In its sixth assessment (AR6), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessed and presented compelling evidence on the great extent to which mountain regions are impacted by climate change, and the adaptation and mitigation actions that are key to address those impacts. So, how can we renew and strengthen the evidence base to continue informing those actions? For the upcoming Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), the IPCC Working Group II (WGII) includes a dedicated Cross-Chapter Paper on High-Altitude and Mountain Regions and they seek the help of the expert community to support that assessment process.

The WGII is now inviting experts to contribute to the expert review of the First Order Draft of the report, together with the Technical Guidelines for Assessing Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation (TGIA) and thereby assist the IPCC Lead Authors in developing the next Second Order Draft in 2027.

The Webinar

To learn more about what the expert review process entails, and how to get involved, we warmly invite you to join us for this online webinar on 23 November, from 13:15 to 14:15 CET. This will provide an opportunity to help mountain experts to have an overall understanding of IPCC assessment process – specifically on the expert review process, on the structure of the report and themes and priorities of chapters and the cross-chapter paper mountains and hear from AR6 and AR7 from Lead Authors on their experiences and expectations. Early-career scientists are specially encouraged and very welcomed to join.
