GEO Mountains works to make mountain data more discoverable, accessible, and useful in order to support research, policy, and sustainable development. By fostering collaboration among scientists, practitioners, and decision-makers, we aim to strengthen the knowledge base needed to address challenges facing mountain regions and communities.
Our activities include a range of projects — from analysing climate change impacts in the Andes to monitoring land-use changes in East Africa — and coordinated Task Groups that advance priorities such as improving data inventories, enhancing regional engagement, and contributing to global assessments.
Together, these initiatives help transform diverse data sources into coherent information and insight for evidence-based decision-making in mountain systems.
