The 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place in Antalya, Türkiye from 9 to 20 November 2026. Many GEO Members and Participating Organisations are leading activities throughout COP31. Join the GEO community if you will be in Antalya! Some events will be webcasted, so you can also join online.
9 November, 15:00-18:00 | Earth Information Day (EID) 2026, at Plenary 2, Blue Zone
This mandated UNFCCC event will focus on the State of the Global Climate Observing System and Earth observations for Effective Climate Action, under the overarching theme “From Observation to Application.” GEO, together with the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) and the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS), will deliver a joint presentation, presented by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on behalf of the three organisations, on new observation capabilities and remaining gaps. This will highlight contributions related to mitigation, including insights from the CEOS GST Study Team report supporting the Global Stocktake, as well as to adaptation and resilience, showcasing relevant GEO activities, such as GEOGLAM, Digital Earth Pacific and GEO Mountains. GEO and partners also contributed updates on recent activities to the 2026 EID information note prepared by the Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice, available here.
9 November, 18:30-20:00 | Earth Observation, Global Carbon Budget & Adaptation Indicators, at Side Event Room 9, Safranbolu, Area A, Blue Zone
Co-organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), JAXA, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and the University of Exeter, this event will highlight the latest Global Carbon Budget and showcase Earth observation-based applications for climate adaptation indicators. The event will also promote the CEOS Earth Observation Handbook. GEO made a significant contribution to the handbook through a joint call for use cases across the GEO community.
10 November, 14:30-15:30 | The State of Global Climate Observation, at UNFCCC Pavilion, Blue Zone
This high-level event will bring together senior decision-makers and institutional leaders to address growing threats to global climate observing systems. It will highlight how gaps in satellite and in situ observations affect climate services and decision-making in critical sectors, while exploring coordinated actions, partnerships and sustainable funding solutions, guided by GCOS’ 10-point priority action plan.
12 November, 13:00-13:45 | From Technology to Community Action: Advancing Inclusive Early Warning Systems, at IOM Pavilion / Human Mobility Hub, Blue Zone
The UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) will launch a policy brief on community-based early warning systems (EWS), building on the 2024 TEC–GEO policy brief on innovation and technology for EWS. The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), as co-lead of the Early Warnings for All initiative and a GEO Participating Organisation, will highlight the links between the two policy briefs and opportunities for practical implementation.
16 November, 17:00-18:00 | AI for Early Warnings: From Innovation to Impact, at Azerbaijan Pavilion, Blue Zone
This side event will feature the work of the Early Warnings for All Initiative AI subgroup, including a pilot project in Kenya to test AI-powered integration of GEO’s Global Heat Resilience Service with International Telecommunication Union (ITU)’s connectivity coverage maps.
17 November, 12:30-13:15 | Advancing Climate Resilience through Earth Intelligence: Innovation, Data, and Action, at Türkiye Pavilion / Salon 2, Blue Zone
Aligned with COP31 thematic priorities, this GEO-led event will bring together Türkiye and other GEO Member representatives to showcase Earth Intelligence capabilities and practical applications, including GEOGLAM and its work on food security, climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable land use. The event will explore opportunities to scale operational services through international cooperation and foster knowledge exchange and capacity-building. A full overview of side events at the Türkiye Pavilion is available here.
19 November, 14:30-15:30 | Developing Capacity-Building for Climate Action, at SDG Pavilion, Blue Zone
This session, moderated by a GEO Youth CoP leadership representative, will focus on strengthening capacity-building for climate action through Earth observations and space-based technology education and training.
If you or your organisations plan to attend COP31 or organise related activities, please share the details with the GEO Secretariat at secretariat@geosec.org to coordinate GEO’s presence and amplify collective engagement.
