The GEO Mountains Task Groups Kick-Off Meeting took place on 9 October 2024, marking an important step in the advancement of GEO Mountains' Implementation Plan for 2023-2025.

Below is a summary of the key outcomes from the meeting:

The meeting introduced the structure and roles of the six Task Groups (TGs) which are intended to contribute to GEO Mountains until at least the end of 2025. The TGs have been established to facilitate coordinated, collaborative efforts on specific topics, and aim to enhance learning and sharing of expertise across disciplines and regions. All TG activities will align closely with GEO Mountains’ objectives of improving global data discoverability, accessibility, and usability in mountain environments, as well helping to ensure the relevance of these data to both science and policy. The Terms of Reference (ToRs) will which will guide and underpin all TG activities by clearly setting out expectations of all involved were were also presented, and are available here.

Brief presentations on the main topics and initial activities of each TG then followed. The meeting closed with a discussion / Q&A segment. The full meeting slides are available here. If any Member (or prospective Member) is interested in becoming a TG Lead, Co-Lead, or participant, please contact us (geomountains@mountainresearchinitiative.org).

We’re looking forward to your contributions!
