Recently, three GEO Working Groups have been newly approved and will operate as "Enabling Mechanisms" under the Post-2025 GEO Work Programme:
1. Disaster Risk Reduction and Adaptation (DRRA) WG
3. Resilient Cities-and Human Settlements (RCHS) WG
As outlined in the Post-2025 GEO Strategy, the new GEO Work Programme emphasizes co-producing Earth Intelligence solutions to address complex global challenges.
Within this context, the WGs serve as enabling mechanisms, supporting the transition of GEO from primarily facilitating EO data access to actively co-developing integrated, user-driven tools and services that inform strategic decisions and empower society.
The WGs will help achieve this by providing foundational support across all R2O (Research-to-Operations) Pipeline activities (including GEO Mountains). Their roles include enhancing the growth and capacity of these activities to deliver operational services and supporting the broader GEO community and regional initiatives.
Upon the approval of these WGs, GEO Mountains members were then sent an invitation to take a survey that aims to capture members' feedback and priorities regarding GEO Mountain engagement in the pan-GEO Working Groups post-2025. Members are requested to fill out the survey by 30 September 2025.
Individuals who are not GEO Mountain members but would like to contribute their feedback to the survey may request a link to the survey by contacting the GEO Mountains secretariat at: geomountains@mountainresearchinitiative.org
