We are excited to invite members of the GEO Mountains community to actively engage in our upcoming activities! As we prepare for our next phase of activities for 2024-2027, we aim to redefine and rejuvenate our Task Groups (TGs), further developing and evolving the groups initiated in 2022.

GEO Mountains' first General Meeting of the year was held on 22 May 2024. This online meeting provided an opportunity to update network members about recent activities and developments, including the outcomes of the recent workshop series and some updates regarding Adaptation at Altitude and the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). 

GEO Mountains is pleased to report on the outcomes achieved by the projects focused on enhancing mountain data and information that were funded through our Small Grants Programme 2023. 

The African Mountain Research Foundation (AMRF) is UK-based charity established in 2022 with the ambitious objective of helping to safeguard southern Africa’s fragile, neglected, and vitally important mountain systems. 

On 20-22 February 2024, the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), GEO Mountains, the Consorcio para el Desarrollo Sostenible de la Ecorregión Andina (CONDESAN), the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), Instituto de Hidrología, Meteorología y Estudios Ambientales (IDEAM), AmeriGEO, the Humboldt Institute and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), co-convened a workshop in Bogotá, Colombia.

On 6-8 November 2023, the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), GEO Mountains, and multiple partner organisations including the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the Himalayan University Consortium (HUC), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), co-convened a workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal.
